long.\u00a0 These sheets, brand-named <em>Ice Protector OPTIFORCE\u00ae,<\/em> are manufactured by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.landolt.com\/wEnglish\/home\/home.asp\">Landolt Group<\/a>, whose portfolio includes various specialized woven, non-woven, and geotextile fabrics.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to that strong European market,<em> Ice Protector<\/em> has begun to make a bit of an inroads in North America, with recent tests at &#8220;three major ski areas&#8221; in Colorado as well as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artspotinfo.org\/the-snowtorium.html\">&#8220;Snowtorium&#8221;<\/a> in Jackson Hole, a sculpted ring of snow wrapped in winter and <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/4600767\">unveiled<\/a> on the fourth of July to face Wyoming&#8217;s summer sun.\u00a0 One scientist, Ohio State University&#8217;s Jason Box, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/earth\/environment\/climatechange\/4689667\/Wrapping-Greenland-in-reflective-blankets.html\">has been conducting<\/a> field tests on Greenland&#8217;s glaciers, hoping that <em>Ice Protector<\/em> might not only preserve the recreational landscapes of the wealthy, but also prevent glaciers from contributing to rising floodwaters across the globe (video of Box&#8217;s plan <a href=\"http:\/\/dsc.discovery.com\/videos\/discovery-project-earth-wrapping-glaciers-in-a-nutshell.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>And browsing <a href=\"http:\/\/pruned.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/ice\/\"><em>Pruned<\/em>&#8216;s archives<\/a> and re-imagining mountain-derived tactics such as <em>Ice Protector<\/em> for urban landscapes, you might begin to fill out that toolbox: not just snow plows and glacier wraps, but also screens that <a href=\"http:\/\/pruned.blogspot.com\/2008\/09\/glacier-sailing-with-katabatic-winds.html\">harness the harsh winds spilling between skyscrapers<\/a> to cool and preserve snow (or redirect its fall mid-air), patented <a href=\"http:\/\/pruned.blogspot.com\/2008\/08\/gazex.html\">funnels tapping snowy banks<\/a> like enormous faucets and arching streams of snow across crosswalks, and <a href=\"http:\/\/pruned.blogspot.com\/2007\/03\/sites-of-managed-anxiety.html\">lines of bright-orange fencing<\/a> controlling drifts and altering the patterns of piles pushed onto side streets by municipal plows;
