{"id":6872,"date":"2013-11-30T13:00:01","date_gmt":"2013-11-30T18:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/m.ammoth.us\/blog\/?p=6872"},"modified":"2013-11-30T13:52:23","modified_gmt":"2013-11-30T18:52:23","slug":"hyper-reality-a-new-vision-of-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/m.ammoth.us\/blog\/2013\/11\/hyper-reality-a-new-vision-of-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"hyper-reality: a new vision of the future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long-time readers of <em>mammoth<\/em> may recall our excitement at Keiichi Matsuda&#8217;s short films <a href=\"http:\/\/keiichimatsuda.com\/press\/dr.html\">Domestic Robocop<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/keiichimatsuda.com\/press\/ac\/index.html\">Augmented City<\/a>, both of which present believable near-future visions of a world in which &#8220;synthetic spaces created by the digital information that we collect, consume and organise&#8221; supersede &#8220;the physical space of buildings and landscape&#8221;, while at the same time subtly critiquing the potentially dystopian character of this future.<\/p>\n<p>Matsuda <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/723600195\/hyper-reality-a-new-vision-of-the-future\">recently launched a Kickstarter<\/a> to fund the production of a new set of films set in a similar future, swapping out London for Medellin. (I mention that swap because I think it&#8217;s a fantastic choice, given the socioeconomic, cultural, and architectural environment of Medellin.) Based on his earlier work, I think we can trust Matsuda when he says that &#8220;it will be an ambitious new vision of the future; instead of jetpacks, flying cars and robots, think smart cities, super-social media, and ubiquitous augmented reality. It will be a science fiction short for our time; introspective, critical, and beautifully designed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But if you won&#8217;t take my word for it, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/723600195\/hyper-reality-a-new-vision-of-the-future\">check out Matsuda&#8217;s launch video<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/78557705\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t post many requests for funding on <em>mammoth<\/em>, but we highly encourage you to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/723600195\/hyper-reality-a-new-vision-of-the-future\">contribute<\/a> (as we have) to Matsuda&#8217;s project, which has roughly a week left to obtain full funding.
