— Digital Landscape Representation

LAR 5304G Digital Landscape Representation
Combined seminar in digital landscape representation with basic, intermediate, and advanced tracks, taught in Spring 2014 by Rob Holmes in Virginia Tech’s National Capital Region Master of Landscape Architecture program at the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center.

The basic track covers static two-dimensional representation; utilizes representational techniques drawn from architectural drawing, cartography, and various notation practices for recording movement and change through time and space; and works primarily with AutoCAD, Photoshop, and Illustrator. The intermediate track focuses on three-dimensional techniques, both static and dynamic, while working primarily with 3ds Max and Rhino; it is open to students who have previously taken Digital Landscape Representation or other students with permission from the instructor. The advanced track is configured as an independent study in topics such as animation, simulation, and modeling; as it is designed to function concurrently with thesis studies, it is open only to thesis students.
